                    Mount Carmel Wineries

                    Picture
The Carmel Region is located along the Northern Mediterranean in Israel and east into the Carmel Mountain Range.  In 1882, the period of the First Aliyah to Israel, a few hundred Romanian and Lithuanian Jews had a dream to develop the land of Israel, however their journey was difficult as the land of Israel was swampy and malaria was rampant. When Edmond Baron De Rothschild heard about these Jews suffering and saw that the land where they settled was rich in soil for vineyards, Rothschild started a few communities known as Roth Pina, Rishon LeZion, Zichron Yakov, and he founded the Carmel Mizrahi Winery,.  Rothschild financed the building and work of the development of wine grapes in Israel and if it were not for Rothschild there may not have been a thriving wine industry in Israel.

Today there remains many descendants of the First Aliyah that now have successful wineries, such as the Tishbi Estate Winery.  In the Carmel Region we combine Old World and New World techniques to produce high-quality wine with character.

The wineries in the Carmel Region include: Binyamina Winery, the 4th largest winery in Israel also producing liquors; Somek Winery and Smadar Winery, both boutique and intimate; Amohorae Winery, set in the majestic forests of the Carmel mountain, and Solomon Winery.
