On Thursday, July 1st, Jonathan and Adena from Ohio, experienced a wine tour in the Upper Galilee.  We started the tour at the Galil Mountain Winery where they received an hour tour of the facilities and got an explanation of the wine making process. They tasted the Viognier, Barbera and Yiron, which they enjoyed all of them

We then visited Adir Winery where they got a bit tipsy on all 9 tastings of Adir Wines. They loved all their wines and were pleasantly surprised by the high-quality of wines coming from Israel.

Rimon Winery is the only winery in the world that produces wine from pomegranates, so they really were interested in the process and health benefits of  pomegranate wine.

We then enjoyed a kibbutz style lunch in Rosh Pina.  By the end of the day, both Jonny and Adena fell in love with the wines from the Upper Galilee.

The Martin’s take pleasure in a nice bottle of wine and know about wine from a wine appreciation course in London.  The first stop was the Adir Winery where the Martins were spoiled with a beautiful goat’s cheese platter, goat milk yogurt and a wine pairing.  Zvi poured them the 2007 and 2006 Cabernet, 2007 Shiraz, Plato series wine, dessert wine and Port.

The Martin’s never tasted wine made from Pomegranates so I took them to the Rimon Winery where they toured the facilities, saw the vineyards, and tasted the dry and semi-dry wines as well as the Rimon confiture.

We then drove into the Kerem Ben Zimra kibbutz and visited Molly, the owner and winemaker of Miles Winery.  The Martin’s enjoyed the intimate setting in Molly’s home where she poured them her newly released 2005 Merlot, 2006 Cabernet-Merlot blend, White Port, and Red Port.

To understand the wide range of wineries in Israel we then traveled to kibbutz Yiron, on the boarder with Lebanon, and toured the Galil Mountain Winery, who produces 1 million bottles a year.  The Martin’s tasted the Viognier, Yiron and Meron flagship wines, and the Barbera.

From 10:30am until 4pm we enjoyed 4 wineries and the scenic Upper Galilee views.  The Martin’s learned more about Israeli wine and brought back some souvenirs to share with their wine appreciation class.

On March 17, 2010 Rob and Kelly started their day with a hearty breakfast at the Artists Colony Inn in Tsfat. This B&B is the top rated place to stay in Tsfat with its quaint charm and delightful owners, Jeff and Benay.

We descended Tsfat and traveled to the Galil Mountain Winery where Rob and Kelly received a private tour by Shiri.  They enjoyed a tasting of the Yiron, Avivim, Cabernet-Shiraz blend and Barbara Wines.

Next we drove to the Rimon Winery where Rob and Kelly enjoyed another private tour with Ortal. They saw the vats and French oak barrels that the Pomegranate wine is oaked in. They thoroughly enjoyed the Rimon Wines and bought a carton for their friends and family back home to taste.

Kelly and Rob were not tipsy enough so we drove across the street to the Adir Winery to taste their high-quality wines produced from Kerem Ben Zimra vineyards, and organic goat cheeses.

Drinking on an empty stomach is not the smartest thing, so we then traveled to Gush Halev for delicious hummus, pita, chicken kabobs and falafel.

We ended our day at the Miles Winery in Kerem Ben Zimra. Molly, the owner, took us into her home and sampled the savory wines with us.  The Miles Winery produces a unique white port made from Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier grapes and oaked for four years in a French barrel.

After a day with Kelly and Rob, I stopped at the Yeman man in Tsfat who makes the delicious bread with zatar and vegetables for a glass of home-made organic Merlot, which I must say was a perfect end to a most enjoyable day.
