We had a personal tour with Eiton, the manager of Tzuba Winery, and he took us to the vineyards and to an ancient wine press. The Sonstein family then enjoyed a private tasting with Paul, the winemaker at Tzuba Winery. They had never heard of Tzuba before and now have a new appreciation for their wines, especially their Chianti style wines. ![]() After eating a hearty lunch at Moshiko in Mivaserette, we headed to Ella Valley Winery in Emek HaElla. At Ella Valley the family tasted wines that they were already familiar with since they are avid fans of Ella Valley winery in the States. ![]() The last winery of the day, Agur Winery, was a nice treat and fun time for the Sonstein family. The Sonstein family are avid wine drinkers and lovers and were very excited about their wine trip! The first winery we visited was the Galil Mountain Winery. At the Galil Mountain Winery the Sonstein family received the experience of visiting a large scale winery with an elegance and scenic view, although it was a bit foggy that morning. They enjoyed a tasting in the Sukka and specifically enjoyed the 2006 Yiron. ![]() The next winery was Adir Winery, which was the best and biggest surprise to the Sonstein family. They had a professional tasting with Tzvi and found a new kosher wine to collect and save for many years to come. ![]() Since we were across the street, we visited theRimon Winery and tasted Pomegranate Wine, specifically, their dessert wine, port style wine, and bubbly wines. The Champagne style was enjoyed the most. After all these wineries and not much to eat besides Goat’s cheese and yogurt from Adir Winery, we traveled to Tiberius and enjoyed a nice meal at Decks. California Wine Tour09/29/2010 ![]() Jonathan (my fiancé) and I traveled to California to visit Jonathan’s parents this past September. We decided to take a nice side-trip to San Francisco, from LA and make our way up the coast and through some wine country. We started our trip in Santa Barbara where we had a delicious brunch with Jonathan’s Uncle Steven and Aunt Phyllis, who gave us a few different pamphlets on wineries in Paso Robles and Santa Ynez Valley. ![]() We traveled through the Santa Ynez Valley and stopped at some beautiful view points, but we decided that the wines in Pasa Robles were the wines we wanted to taste. We got a recommendation from one of Jonathan’s friends to visit Fratelli Perata, a boutique family-owned winery. We fell in love with their wines and atmosphere. The family grew up around vineyards in Italy and wanted to recreate their wine in California. I highly recommend visiting their winery if you are passing through Paso Robles! The wife gave us a tasting of all their wines but by far our favorite was the Mafalda. Words can not explain the deliciousness, fruity flavors and aromas that are in this wine. It is perfect! ![]() The next winery we visited was Castoro Cellars, which was a larger winery with a bigger selection. The woman that did the tasting for us was very knowledgeable and sweet. We bought a bottle of their 2006 Cabernet Franc, which was enjoyed at a dinner with friends in Israel to celebrate our return. Unfortunately we did not have an opportunity to go to other wineries, but the next time we are in California, we will be sure to visit many more. ![]() Hearst Wine collection If you are ever traveling up the Coastal Road in California, you must stop at the Hearst Castel and take one of their many guided tours! We enjoyed the garden tour which took us into Hearst Wine Cellar. Some of the wine and alcohol were from the 1800's! ![]() On Thursday, September 1st, Shoshana and Asaf celebrated their marriage with friends and family on a wine tour in Zichron Yaakov. I picked them up in Jerusalem at 9am and by 11:30am we were touring around the facilities of Tishbi Winery. I explained to the history of the First Aliyah and the Tishbi's family relation to Edmond Baron De Rothschild. The grapes were Cabernet Sauvignon from the Golan Heights. ![]() After a nice stroll around Ramat HaNadiv, the Botanical Gardens and memorial to Rothschild, we went to Somek Winery, a small boutique winery in Zichron Yaakov, owned by Barak Dahan. Barak toured us around his backyard which houses his winery and home since the time of his grandfather. After drinking his smooth and delicate wines, we traveled to the Promenade in old Zichron Yaakov and enjoyed some Aldo ice cream before heading back to Jerusalem. The second winery we enjoyed an intimate tour with Shuki, the owner of Agur Winery.
