Alana enjoyed the day with me on Friday, June 11th in the Carmel Region wineries.  We drove up the coast from Tel Aviv to Tishbi Winery. Alana is a business student but also makes wine as a hobby. She is making her first batch of Pino Noir in her apartment!

Alana enjoyed the 2009 Gewürztraminer and the wine jams, especially the apple cabernet from Oshra's Fine Food products. Afterwards we took a stroll at Ramat HaNadiv and Alana understood the perspective of location of Zichron Yaakov to the Mediterranean.  This was Alana's first trip to Israel so to go beyond Jerusalem and Tel Aviv was fascinating to her. She really enjoyed learning about the thriving Israeli wine industry.

Our next winery was Somek Winery where Alana got to taste the difference between a French oaked Chardonnay and American oaked Chardonnay (Tishbi produces). We sat with Barak, the owner of Somek, and tasted his 100% Carignan, Birkat-Hanadiv (blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit-Syrah), and Chardonnay.

To soak up all wine, Alana ate her first shakshuka at Nili Bar and Café.  She loved it!

Our last winery was Amphorae Winery set in the middle of the Makora forests.  We were the only people visiting and we met Dr. Arkadi B. Papikian, a very famous Russian/Israeli doctor of winemaking and consultant to over 50 of Israel's wineries.

Now that Alana knows more about wine and Israel, she wants to come back and somehow be a part of the Israeli wine industry.  Le'Chaim!

On June 1st, the Donig family enjoyed a wine tour of the Carmel Region wineries.  I gave them a personal tour of Tishbi Winery where they thoroughly enjoyed the art of tasting wine with all their five senses. They learned what it meant to make kosher wine verse non-kosher wine, the process of wine making, and the effect of the First Aliyah to the Tishbi and Dahan (Somek Winery) families.

We then enjoyed a stroll at Ramat HaNadiv, we smelled the herb garden, and saw the beautiful outlook of the Mediterranean Coast.

Next we toured and tasted Somek Winery, which the Donig family loved the 2003 Port which was oaked for 3 years in the sun and is a combination of Cabernet and Merlot wine and fortified with Italian brandy.

That night the Donig family flew back to the United States with their bottles of Israeli wine and a lot of fun-filled pictures

I moved to Israel in June 2008 not knowing what I was going to do in Israel. It turns out, my wine hobby is my career. MIWT coordinates wine tours for tourists and locals around Israel's 300 wineries in 5 regions on a weekly basis.  Come join the fun!
